The New Jersey Innovation Fellows Program approved grants for four startups — including a healthcare solutions platform, a data-driven small business consulting practice, a mobile fitness application, and a digital marketplace for disabled individuals to better access service providers — that intend to integrate AI technology into their products.
The largest concentration of engineers and scientists per square mile and the third-highest share of STEM degrees awarded in the United States are here in New Jersey. Plus, real estate here is 40% less per square foot than New York City and almost 30% less than Silicon Valley.
We’re all in for AI innovation in New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy established an AI task force that explores the ways AI can stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and enhance training and talent development. New Jersey is also spearheading a nation-leading initiative to educate people who work for the State of New Jersey about the development, use, and risks of AI.
Princeton University and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) announced the creation of an AI innovation hub in January 2024 that will bring together researchers, industry leaders, and start-up companies. The hub will house dedicated accelerator space and advance the use of ethical AI to positively impact businesses and their employees. It will also support the development of a strong tech workforce through collaborations with other New Jersey universities, community colleges, and vocational schools.
